Every kind of trail activity is represented in the listing of designated NRTs. Besides hiking and bicycling, the system includes water trails, motorized routes, snow tracks, greenways, and equestrian paths.

The Bird to Gird Pathway follows the Turnagain Arm
Bird to Gird Pathway — This 13-mile scenic rail-trail connects the communities of Girdwood, Bird, and Indian, and offers views of the ocean, mountains, and glaciers (designated 2006).
Campbell Tract Loop Trail — Located within the Bureau of Land Management's Campbell Tract Facility in Anchorage, this scenic 3.4-mile urban/wildland interface trail offers numerous opportunities to view Alaskan wildlife while enjoying activities such as mountain biking, hiking, snowshoeing and skijoring.
Pinnell Mountain Trail — This Bureau of Land Management NRT follows ridges above timber line in the vastness of interior Alaska.
Perseverance Trail — Located in Juneau, this 3-mile backcountry trail started out as the first road in Alaska, linking the Gastineau Channel with various mines and mills in the Silverbow Basin. Today, it is considered one of Alaska's most historic and recreationally significant trails. Trail users enjoy relics of the gold mining era intermixed with a diversity of vegetation, waterfalls, snow slide gulches, and majestic views of the rugged mountains. In addition to its scenic and historic features, the trail serves as a link to area trails and allows for recreational opportunities including hiking, biking, and rock climbing (designated 2005).
