Perry Lake Trail — Volunteers under the direction of the Kansas Trails Council provide all of the maintenance on the trail, which is managed by the Corps of Engineers. The 30-mile trail traverses much of the historic Old Military trail from Ft. Leavenworth to Ft. Riley. This Perry Lake Trail is unique in its historic value, but it also distinctive in its geologic and topographic aspects. It is located in the northeast part of Kansas, which is the western edge of the eastern hardwoods. The trail runs through rolling hills and oak-hickory forest as well as open, native grasslands (designated 2006).

Pioneer Nature Trail – This 1.3-mile trail at Council Grove Lake is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Two trail loops features upland woodlands, tallgrass prairie, and the remnants of buffalo wallows (designated 2009).
