PowerBar Inc. Supports Outdoor Recreational Areas Nationwide $74,000 in D.I.R.T. GRANTS brings energy Bar leader's donations to over $330,000 to date (2002). With the completion of its 2000 granting period, PowerBar Inc. announced that it will donate $74,000 in Direct Impact On Rivers And Trails (D.I.R.T.) funds to 31 organizations across the country. The energy bar leader received approximately 150 applications, a record number for the company's four year-old program, submitted by grassroots organizations nationwide who are working on critical conservation and access issues in their local communities. "As a company comprised of active outdoor enthusiasts, PowerBar appreciates the need and value of protecting and enhancing public land and waterways for recreational enjoyment," said PowerBar general manager Frank Higgins. "Through our D.I.R.T. program, we are committed to helping grassroots groups across the country make a difference at the local level." PowerBar's 31 D.I.R.T. grant recipients for the 2000 granting period are:
PowerBar's D.I.R.T. outdoor recreational grant program funds individuals and groups that create, maintain, improve or restore access to valued recreational areas. D.I.R.T. grants range from $1,000 to $5,000 and PowerBar supports the D.I.R.T. program by donating a portion of the proceeds from its Harvest energy bar sales to the grant fund. Since the program's 1997 inception, PowerBar has donated over $330,000 in D.I.R.T. grants to more than 120 grassroots organizations nationwide.
