Arizona partnership maps and inventories OHV trails A statewide effort to designate motorized routes to better manage OHV recreation. By Jeni Bradley
The Arizona OHV Inventory Partnership is a successful collaborative effort between the BLM, Forest Service, USFS-Recreation Solutions Enterprise Team, Arizona State Parks and the Arizona State Land Department. The Partnership began in January 2000, with a statewide effort to designate motorized routes to better manage OHV recreation. The goal is to create a complete inventory of all routes on Arizona public lands. Recreation Solutions Enterprise Team members collect and maintain inventory data. Recreation Solutions crews collect data on motorcycles, ATV's or vehicles using Trimble Pro XRS Receivers and TSCE Data loggers.
Some Recreation Solutions employees have taken the knowledge obtained from their route inventory work and are moving to the next level by applying it to route designation work. Team member Tom Bickauskas now serves as transportation planner for the Phoenix Field Office/BLM, leading their route designation efforts. To date, Recreation Solutions has completed nearly 20,000 miles of route inventory.
