• Back Country Horsemen of America is a service organization working to insure that public lands remain open to recreational stock use. Members teach traditional packing skills and educate horsemen in Leave No Trace principles of traveling with stock. They assist public lands agencies in maintenance, improvement, and construction of trails and other facilities. They advocate politically in support of adequate funding for trails. BCHA is currently organized in 16 states. In 2001, members donated $1,900,000 in time, labor, and use of animals and equipment for volunteer service, much of that devoted to improving backcountry trails and trailheads.

• The Florida Center for Environmental Studies (CES) is a state university system research center established in July 1994 by the Regents of the State University System of Florida. The Center was created as a place that would "synthesize and communicate knowledgeÉ to the community at large." • The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Office of Greenways & Trails (OGT) is working to establish a statewide system of greenways and trails for recreational and conservation purposes. The staff of OGT provides planning and technical assistance to local governments, developers, private landowners and state and federal agencies. OGT also provides grants for the development of both motorized and non-motorized recreational trail projects and administers a $4.5 million land acquisition program under the Florida Forever Act. In order to educate and inform Florida residents and visitors about the value of greenways and trails the office sponsors special events, publishes a quarterly newsletter, prepares press releases and magazine articles, creates promotional materials, and distributes information regarding greenways and trails. In addition, OGT manages the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway, a 110-mile long conservation and recreation corridor spanning Putnam, Marion, Citrus and Levy counties which includes an extensive network of hiking, biking, equestrian and paddling trails. • The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission manages more than four million acres of land, traditionally providing high quality hunting and fishing. • The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) coordinates highway transportation programs in cooperation with States and other partners to enhance the country's safety, economic vitality, quality of life, and the environment. The Federal-Aid Highway Program provides Federal financial assistance to the States to construct and improve the National Highway System, other major roads, bridges, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and trails. The Federal Lands Highway Program provides access to and within national forests, national parks, Indian reservations, and other public lands. The FHWA also manages a comprehensive transportation research, development, and technology program.

• Volusia County will provide literature and maps highlighting the Volusia County Trails Plan. The proposed trails network visions the development of a multi-use trail system for year round use that will serve both a recreation and transportation benefit and will feature safe and attractive facilities linking together communities, neighborhoods, schools, parks and other public lands, waterways and ECHO attractions within and outside of the county.

• The Volusia County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is responsible for prioritizing how federal transportation dollars are allocated toward roads, transit and bicycle and pedestrian facilities. The Volusia MPO is located in Daytona Beach and the members include Volusia County and 14 of the 16 cities. The smaller cities rotate on and off the board. The MPO is currently working on bike/ped implementation plan that will identify important bicycle and pedestrian facilities suitable for funding, including multiuse trails.
