Grotto and waterfall at HamiltonŐs Pool Nature Park

Explore two of the Texas Hill Country's most beautiful nature areas, and wind up with a winery tour. Learn about nature tourism, plus managing trails and trail use in sensitive environments. Travel will be on natural surface trails over uneven terrain.

The first stop will be at the West Cave Preserve, where you will tour the award winning Warren Skaaren Environmental Learning Center. The center exhibits an "analemma," or solar calendar and clock that is etched into the building's floor.

From there, you will hike to a gorgeous grotto and waterfall that is the preserve's focal point. Next, you will travel to the nearby Hamilton's Pool Nature Park. A hike will take you along a clear stream lined with large old cypress trees, to a dramatic pool and waterfall (during wet seasons). The pool with its beach is a popular swimming hole in the summer. A picnic lunch will be provided at this park.

The trip will end with a tour of a local Texas Winery, which includes wine tasting for those so inclined.
