A major trail bridge over Town Lake

Learn why many make a trip to the shores of Town Lake a regular part of their daily routine. This 10-mile loop trail in downtown Austin is truly a community commons that defines quality of life in the City. The Parks and Recreation Department performed a study of the trail's use. Over one million trail users visit this lakeside trail every year. The Town Lake Trail is a National Recreation Trail that was the brainchild of Lady Bird Johnson during President LBJÕs tenure.

This leisurely two-mile trail tour, will point out many public/private relationships with hotels and businesses that make the trail a success. You will investigate the $8 million bike and pedestrian bridge over Town Lake. A stop will be made at the Congress Avenue Bridge to meet with Bat Conservation International who will discuss how this bridge came to host the largest urban bat colony in the country.
