Contractor Ptarmigan Ptrails, LLC, seeks assistant project manager

Ptarmigan Ptrails, LLC, a specialty contractor focused on sustainable trail construction, seeks a qualified individual to work under the supervision of Ptarmigan Ptrails’ lead project manager. This position is responsible for assisting in the management, coordination and project oversight of Youth Employment in Parks (YEP) crews.
Anchorage’s YEP program employs a crew up to 25 teens, comprised of three youth crews, each led by a crew leader and senior crewmember.

Responsibilities include:
Position reports to and works as a subordinate to Ptarmigan Ptrails’ lead project manager. Utilizes knowledge and experience in sustainable trail construction, basic bridge construction, parks maintenance and leadership in order to successfully complete parks projects for Anchorage Department of Parks and Recreation.

Duties include:
Training and supervision of crewmembers in sustainable trail construction
Training and supervision of crewmembers in safe and proper use of hand tools
Providing a leadership role in trail construction techniques
Facilitating a professional and safe environment for youth to interact and work.
Understanding of project logistics, planning
Be highly motivated, enthusiastic and work independently.
Perform and lead physically demanding work such as trail construction.
Ensure project standards and goals are met
Work directly with groups and individuals
Administer first aid and CPR if necessary.
Safely operate up to 1-ton truck with trailer
Complete project documentation and reporting as needed

Minimum Qualifications:
Two years or “seasons” of trail construction using hand tools preferably in a crew atmosphere
No criminal record or felony convictions
High School Diploma

Previous Leadership experience, preferably in a crew setting
Ability to operate mini-skid steers, mini-excavators or other mechanized equipment
Experienced faller and chainsaw operator
Can provide Truck for vehicle for expeditor duties (mileage compensation provided)

Compensation: $18 - $25 hourly D.O.E
Location: Anchorage, Alaska
YEP program runs approximately May 25 – August 15th, 2015
Guaranteed 35hr work week with opportunity of up to 50 hours if desired (Not to exceed 500 hours over contract period)
Additional work on projects outside of YEP management if desired
