New England Trail Crew Leader for Blue Hills Reservation in Milton, MA

Position Description

This position entails leading a small crew on a large variety of trail maintenance and reconstruction projects throughout the 125 miles of trail in the Blue Hills Reservation in Milton, MA.


Lead a crew of 4-6 professional trail workers and occasional volunteers on trail projects.

Maintain tradition of high quality trail work, representing the AMC trails program

Report to and communicate regularly with White Mountain Trails Programs Trails Supervisor.

Manage crew and project logistics in an organized, flexible, and creative fashion.

Document work completed and crew hours

Maintain and enforce safety standards at all times

Required skills

- experience leading trail crews on a variety of trail reconstruction and construction projects
- ability to perform the duties of a trail worker
- strong leadership skills
- ability to manage logistics and problem solve without direct supervision
- strong, professional communication skills
- self motivated
- ability to follow instruction without close supervision
- knowledge of hand tool use and care
- valid drivers license and good driving record

Desired Skills
- Certified Class B Sawyer
- Knowledge of overhead rigging systems and griphoist safety
- First Aid and CPR
