Student Conservation Association seeks Project Leader for Ely Wilderness National Forest

Conservation Begins Here. America’s #1 conservation service organization seeks a Project Leader for our Restoration Corps located at the Ely Wilderness & Humboldt Toiyabe NF in CA. The restoration crews will be closing/restoring roads accessing the wilderness. It is located in the Humbolt-Toyabe NF in eastern Nevada and is a high desert 7 to 9000 ft) ecosystem consisting of sage, bitterbush, pinion and juniper. Housing will be forest service bunk house and spike camping at restoration sites.

Dates are May 25 - Sept 21 (17 weeks for Members), ~23 weeks for staff, Crew size is 4 Members and 1 staff.

Primary Responsibilities:
Supervising interns in the restoration, data collection and monitoring of sites specified by the Agency
Provide leadership and support to interns in all project areas to include: restoration, outreach, equipment and logistics, community development, conflict resolution, environmental education and professional development.
Manage budget and complete reports in a timely manner.
Liaise with SCA support staff to utilize all SCA’s resources in the management of the projects to include public relations, data collection, administration, and training.

Minimum 21 years of age.
1 – 3 years of experience leading teams in backcountry settings
Wilderness First Responder/CPR Certified
Bachelor’s degree or work related experience.
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Strong work ethic, self starter
Ability to work in an outdoor environment exposed to the elements for extended periods of time
Valid driver’s license and MVR that meets SCA standards required
Ability to meet SCA’s criminal background check standards

Program Dates:
Training in early April
Employment Length: 17+ weeks beginning in May.

$1030 - $1100 biweekly (DOE)
