Colorado Fourteeners Initiative seeks Development Manager

Position Title: Development Manager
Position Type: Full-time, year-round
Location: Golden, CO
Salary: Competitive, DoE.

The Colorado Fourteeners Initiative (CFI) is a nonprofit organization with the mission to protect and preserve the natural integrity of Colorado's 14,000-foot peaks through active stewardship and public education. Colorado's "Fourteeners" are annually visited by over 500,000 local, national, and international climbers and users. While some of the more remote peaks remain pristine, increased recreational use has seriously impacted many peaks and their alpine basins. Formed in 1994, the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative is a partnership among nonprofit organizations, companies, concerned individuals, and public agencies to conserve Colorado's highest peaks and the quality of the recreational opportunities they provide.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Development Manager will report to the Executive Director and will be responsible for developing and implementing fundraising and marketing strategies to support the mission and programs of the organization. The Development Manager will provide assistance with the financial management of the organization and other tasks as assigned.

¥ Develop, in collaboration with Executive Director and Development Committee of the Board of Directors, a strategic, sustainable, long-range fundraising plan. Strategies will include but are not limited to: Forest Service contributions, foundation grant proposals, corporate solicitations, individual membership and major gift campaigns, and special events.

¥ Develop a strategic, creative marketing plan to strengthen CFI's visibility.

¥ Maintain systems and records for implementing and reporting funding activities and providing accurate and timely follow-up and reports to donors.

¥ Work with Executive Director and the Bookkeeper to ensure that CFI financial affairs are conducted in a manner enabling board members to fulfill their fiduciary responsibilities and satisfy accountability requirements of all governmental and philanthropic funding sources.

¥ Maintain success of current development and marketing activities and CFI's events.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

¥Develop a strategic fundraising plan that will help to ensure a diverse and sustainable funding base to support current and future levels of CFI's programs.

¥Facilitate and attend Development Committee meetings.

¥Prepare fundraising synopses and other reports as requested. Deliver development report to Board of Directors

¥Assist with the effective management of CFI's finances, including the development of Challenge Cost Share Agreements with the Forest Service.

¥Develop and implement strategies to increase individual donor retention and new donor acquisition, including membership appeals and annual campaigns. Oversee monthly membership renewals, acknowledgements, and donor recognition.

¥Identify and secure sources of corporate funding.

¥Maintain CFI's grants calendar. Write and submit grant proposals with all necessary supporting information. Research potential funders and schedule introductory meetings as necessary. Acknowledge grants and complete all necessary grant reports.

¥Create and implement a strategic, creative marketing plan to support CFI programs.

¥Oversee production of CFI's newsletters, e-newsletters, brochures, PSAs, website, and other marketing pieces. Oversee website content and layout.

¥Cultivate and maintain media relations and serve as primary media liaison for CFI.

DESIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

¥Proven performer. Can demonstrate an ability to set goals and achieve them. A winner.

¥Undergraduate degree or higher, with 2-3 years nonprofit fundraising or corporate sales experience.

¥Familiarity with local, regional, and national individuals and foundations supporting conservation work.

¥Strong conservation ethic and belief in CFI's mission. Familiarity with Colorado's 14,000-foot peaks is helpful.

¥Significant experience with prospect identification, solicitation, grant/sponsorship writing, and donor relations.

¥Experience planning, organizing, and running fundraiser and "friendraiser" events.

¥Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills; a brief writing portfolio might be requested of potential hires.

¥Marketing/communications experience is desirable.

¥Comfortable building relationships and interacting with members of Board of Directors, partner organizations, land management agencies, and philanthropic leaders.

¥Working knowledge of nonprofit management, leadership, and governance.

¥Utilize Access database, MS Office, and QuickBooks software for most duties.

¥Other tasks as assigned. CFI is a small nonprofit wherein all members of staff contribute to tasks relating to the overall volunteer management of CFI.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This is a full-time office-based position in Golden, Colorado. In order to manage CFI's development and marketing activities effectively, some travel, field work, and evening and weekend work is required. Must have a valid drivers license.
