POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Open Space & Trails Resource Specialist


POSITION DUTIES: Responsible for comprehensive management and recreation planning on open space properties. Coordinates planning and development of paved pathways and natural surface trails – including identifying project scope and location, securing funding and approvals, and working with other agencies and contractors. Monitors and inventories natural resource features and public uses, and facilitates visionary planning efforts to create, protect, and preserve County open space and trails. Assists in special event permitting and public outreach activities. Other natural resource management and recreation issues as assigned and depending on candidate’s skill set. This position entails approximately 80% office and 20% field work.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in natural resource management, recreation or open space planning and administration, or a related field; plus at least three years of applicable work experience. The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, be an efficient problem solver and self-starter, and have the ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and agencies. Candidate must be a flexible and creative team player able to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously. Experience in project management, successful grant writing, and GIS/GPS skills are strongly preferred. Knowledge of paved pathway and trail design standards, NEPA guidelines, familiarity with local trails and open space, and a basic understanding of local government processes is a plus.


SALARY: $1,927 to $2,116/bi-weekly, plus excellent benefit package. This is a full time, permanent position.
