Perry Jewett

By James Meyer, President, Quarq Technology

Perry Jewett has been instrumental in advocating and supporting the use of the state’s many trails and is the President of Ridge Riders, a mountain biking organization.

I have known Perry for the past 15 years. He is hands down the most dedicated and enthusiastic trail advocate in the State of South Dakota and is a deserving recipient of this award. Perry has done great work for the trails in and around the Northern Black Hills and is a supporter of trail use and development all over the Black Hills.

Perry’s crowning achievement is the Dakota Five-O, the Five-O is the premier cycling event in the state of South Dakota, attracting 400 participants. It links up 50 miles of beautiful Black Hills landscape including sections of established Forest Service trail systems and newly maintained connector trails.

Perry has a perfect background for his trail advocacy work. He has been on all sides of trail creation: Perry worked for the Forest Service for many years, he has worked in bike shops, raced mountain bikes, worn the race director hat and of course can be regularly found enjoying the fantastic trails in this area. Perry is a member of the Spearfish Trails and Recreation committee and is a great asset to any effort to improve trails and trail use.
