Exploring the Intertwine Regional Trails and Park System

Date: Sunday, May 17
Time: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Cost: $40
Skill Level: Easy walking
Length: Approximately 5 miles

Get a flavor of the Intertwine Regional Trails and Park System by walking some of the major regional trails of a 350-mile off-road system. The goal is to eventually build a 1,000-mile regional trails system in the four-county Portland/Vancouver metropolitan area. Attendees will also visit key natural areas and parks along the route. Highlights include Tom McCall Waterfront Park, Salmon St. Springs, South Waterfront Trail, Willamette Park and Trail, Butterfly Park, Tryon Creek State Natural Area, Foothills Park and Trail on the river, bike routes through historic Riverview Cemetery and the Terwilliger Parkway (as envisioned by the Olmsted Brothers 1903 Plan).

A presentation on how a regional trails system has been planned, funded, developed, and maintained by more than 25 trail partners over the past 25 years will be explained. Attendees will learn how two regional bond measures and one levy were passed by the region’s voters in 1995, 2006, and 2013, as well as numerous voter approved local funding options which required cooperation and collaboration. Learn about The Intertwine Alliance, a nonprofit group advocating for trails, parks, and natural areas.
