Walk the Fanno Creek Greenway Trail

Date: Tuesday, May 19
Time: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Cost: $40
Skill level: Easy to moderate walking
Length: Approximately 3 miles

Walk key segments of the Fanno Creek Trail, the premier greenway trail of the Portland region’s west side. Nearly all the sections of this 15-mile multi-use trail from the Willamette River in southwest Portland to the City of Tualatin have been built over the past 40 years. It connects four cities, two counties, and numerous parks, schools, commercial and industrial districts, as well as thousands of residents in urban and suburban settings. Agency staff, professional planners, designers and trail advocates will give presentations at various stops along the trail.

Learn how a mostly off-street trail was built in parts of a floodplain, along a greenway and adjacent to subdivisions, homes, apartments, and businesses over the past years. Hear how the trail overcame “NIMBY” (not in my backyard) opposition and is now one of the region’s most used recreational and commuter trails. The trail also intersects with mass transit and the Westside commuter train. See how the creek and its riparian zone are compatible with the trail as native trees and plants have been installed.
