Slow Roll-Fast Tracks – Xenia to Wilberforce

Tuesday, May 09
1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Cost: $46
Skill Level: Intermediate

Enjoy a Slow Roll from Xenia Station, the downtown Xenia hub for 5 different, internationally renowned and intersecting trails, and experience an afternoon on the Ohio Erie trail to Wilberforce, Ohio. You will explore African-American history dating back to the early 1800s with a visit to the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center, the Payne Theological Seminary, & the Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument, in addition to visits at the Carnegie Library/Wilberforce, Central State University and Wilberforce University. Roll back to historic Downtown Xenia for an architectural scavenger hunt, and learn about the soon-to-be constructed cycle track connecting the Xenia hub through downtown Xenia along Ohio Highway 68/Detroit Street. This street played an important role in both the “Underground” and “Overground” Railroads of the 19th century. Riders will also learn about a tornado that destroyed one-quarter of this small legacy city’s downtown in 1974. See what this charming county-seat city is doing to honor and celebrate its historic downtown, and how Xenia is moving from a Midwest, post-manufacturing declining economy, to a new creative and service-based economy. Observe how Xenia is balancing its trail-rich assets with a low to moderate income resident base to power economic revitalization. Bicycles and helmets will be provided through a generous donation from the Life Enrichment Center of Greater Dayton, Ohio.

Tour Leaders: Greene County Sentinels and Friends of Xenia Station (FOXS)
