How to Sign Up as a Volunteer:

If you are interested in volunteering in the meantime, you can fill out the volunteer form with your areas of interest and fax to American Trails at (530) 547-2035 or scan and email to email@example.com. Then when the online volunteer form is available, we will have you fill that out to gather more specific details.
What are the Benefits of Volunteering for the American Trails International Trails Symposium?
1. Free T-Shirt with Symposium logo and “Trail Boss” written on back.
2. Chance to mingle and network with trail enthusiasts and experts from around the country.
3. Free attendance to one on-site concurrent session for every four hours volunteered.
4. Chance to sign up for mobile workshops that do not fill up. (Volunteers would have to pay the additional price of attending a mobile workshop).
5. Visit the exhibit hall as well as the Outdoor Trade Show to see latest technologies and advancements in trails – at no charge.
6. Complimentary volunteer refreshment area.
7. Free Volunteer Appreciation Party immediately following the Symposium (date and location to be determined).
8. Learn about trails around the country and make new friends!
Volunteer Opportunities at the Symposium:
Exhibit Hall Set-Up/Breakdown: This role will require lifting and moving boxes. Volunteers will lift and move boxes and help set-up exhibits that will be on display during the Symposium. They will assist in moving materials to create displays in the exhibit hall and other areas of the convention center. At the end of the Symposium, volunteers will help take the exhibits apart and clean up.
Bag Stuffer: Package symposium materials for attendees.
Registration Assistant: This role will require a detail oriented person. Volunteers will manage check-in activities, provide direction, assistance, and information about the Symposium, Dayton area, and local trails system to attendees. They will welcome attendees to Dayton and help hand out registration materials.
Merchandise: This role will require a detail oriented person and money handling. Volunteers will manage merchandise sales and be in charge of money. They will handle cash and credit card transactions.
Gophers: Volunteers will not be assigned to a particular area, but will step in as needed (i.e. if a volunteer role is vacant during a shift). They will assist with miscellaneous tasks that American Trails staff need help with.
Auctions: The role requires a detail oriented person and money handling. Volunteers will watch over auction items and help the auctioneer process paperwork and cash/credit card transactions.
Room Hosts: This role requires a detail oriented person. Volunteers will check for conference nametags ensuring that attendees signed up beforehand. After the session has started, volunteers will encourage people to take available open seats in the front of the room. Volunteers will distribute and collect multiple forms and must keep them organized. They will work with the moderator of the session to ensure that A/V needs are met and the room is equipped with the necessary materials. Volunteers will organize and straighten out room before and after sessions and if applicable, place speaker name cards on the front table.
A/V Helper: This role requires knowledge of computer systems, connections to projectors/speakers, and PowerPoint. Volunteers will provide assistance to moderators if any problems with A/V equipment arise. They will troubleshoot any problems and make any needed repairs to get the equipment up and running as quickly as possible.
Keynote Luncheons (and Boxed Lunch), Opening Reception, Awards Banquet: Volunteers will collect tickets (and keep track of them) and monitor who is entering and exiting the room. They will also help out American Trails staff with other items that need attending during these events.
Trails Rock Party: Volunteers will be off-site assisting with set-up, decorations, and collecting tickets. At the end of the party, volunteers will assist with clean-up and teardown of entertainment. There may be some lifting of boxed items from the auction held at the party.
PLEASE NOTE: Some positions only require volunteers for certain days and hours, if your hours of availability do not match these positions you will not be assigned to them. Most positions will last four or more hours.
