Bureau of Land Management training opportunities

For current training schedules see the NTTP Calendar and BLM's National Training Center

The Bureau of Land Management in the US Dept. of the Interior sponsors many courses and workshops through a variety of training opportunities. Trails, recreation, land management, technical training, and public involvement are topics that are frequently covered. The BLM has also been a leader in establishing and developing the National Trails Training Partnership.

Trail Management Process: Plans, Projects and People

The BLM developed and funded this interagency course which includes planning, design layout, construction, maintenance, monitoring, crew leadership, interpretation, operations, and safety. Field exercises include trail layout, construction and maintenance techniques. See currently scheduled opportunities to take the TMP course on the NTTP Calendar. The TMP course can be taught anywhere in the country with sponsorship from appropriate local and agency partners; see details...

The Partnership Series: bringing agencies and communities together

These three-day classes are tailored to the specific community with current concerns and issues. They are designed to address the critical issues of building capacity in times of budgetary constraint, enhancing land stewardship and creating the partnerships that can sustain our mission into the future. Topics include:

  • Community-Based Stewardship and Ecosystems
  • Community Economic Assessment
  • Learning Community
  • Place-Based NEPA
  • Community-Based Friends Group (In Design)

National Training Center in Phoenix

NTC offers over 200 courses annually making it a primary source for BLM training in natural resources and leadership. However, NTC's service to the federal community doesn't end there, as many courses are available to employees of other agencies through a tuition program and many agencies of state and federal government use the facility on a cost-reimbursable basis.

Trail-related courses sponsored by the Bureau of Land Management are listed on on the NTTP Calendar. Other recreation and visual resources powerpoints, notebooks, and other resource materials are available at http://www.ntc.blm.gov/krc/resource.php.
