Trails for America: Every Where, Every Way, Every Day! Mobile Workshop
Details AGAINST ALL ODDS: TRAILS, OBSTACLES AND CREATIVE PARTNERSHIPS
Date: Thursday, October 19 Explore the pathways of the Illinois Quad Cities! Take a golf cart and bus tour on the Great River Trail, the Grand Illinois Trail, Prospect Park and Ben Butterworth Park in Moline, and Sunset Park in Rock Island. Learn how the Quad Cities developed long-range plans, built community support for trails and pathways and overcame conflicts with barge terminals, railroad rights of way, a casino, and several bridges across the Mississippi River. Tour several miles of hike/bike path on a golf cart for a look at the projects, including an overpass for a barge loading facility, an intersection for a railroad spur, a shared right of way with an active railroad, the pathway through a riverfront casino area, and more. The Bus portion of the tour will include visits to Prospect Park and
Blackhawk State Park, both examples of "end of line" Trolley
Parks; "visual" inspection of Moline's Kiwanis Trail; the
construction of the new Rock River Bridge Trail and connections between
Moline, Rock Island and Milan. Lunch will take place at Prospect Park,
which just completed a $1.25 million dollar renovation, including a
new 2-mile walking fitness trail, restoration of an 1890's historic
pavilion, and the addition of a disc golf course.
