Trails for America: Every Where, Every Way, Every Day! Mobile Workshop
Details ARSENAL ISLAND BIKE TOUR
Date: Saturday, October 21 Take a bicycle tour of Arsenal Island's historic landmarks guided by a Corps of Engineers Park Ranger. The tour will start at the Mississippi River Visitor Center, where towboats can be viewed up close as they lock through. Then onto the historic home of Col. Davenport where you will learn how important this "jack-of-all-trades" was to the development of the Quad City Area and why he was murdered in this very house. Other historic points of interest along the way include the National Cemetery, Quarters One, First Railroad Bridge Monument, Memorial Field and the Confederate Cemetery. The tour will stop at the Arsenal Museum. Here you will find information about the Confederate prison camp, weapons that were manufactured on the island, and extensive display of weapons used throughout the years. The tour will cover approximately 6 miles of paved surfaces. A helmet must be worn at all times. You must be a U.S. Citizen to attend. Attendees must stay with the Ranger at all times while riding. Reasons for possible cancellation include, but are not limited to, security and weather. Please indicate on your registration form whether you need a bike rental.
