POSITION & TIME SHIFT
There will be two volunteer training
sessions prior to the Symposium. Volunteers must attend one of these in
order to participate; more information about this will be supplied at a
later date. Please select the positions you would be interested in
working.
List those interested positions numerically in order of preference.
Registration and Information Assistant: Registers
attendees as they arrive. Answers questions and provides information to
attendees or refers them to the proper source. Assists with any other
aspects of registration. Answers questions about the Symposium and Quad
Cities.
Greeters: Greets
participants at Symposium sessions, events, and registration. Directs
people to all events. Answers questions, provides directions and
general information to attendees or refers them to the proper source.
May also serve as “people movers”; moving participants to
plenary sessions, and “ticket takers”; taking tickets at
the plenary sessions involving meals. Individuals must be of high
energy and have knowledge of facilities in the Quad City Area.
Mobile Workshop Assistants: Provides
general assistance to the Mobile Workshop Coordinators with mobile
workshop efforts during the Symposium. Staffs the mobile workshop
information table, providing information to attendees. Mobile Workshop
Assistants will report to Mobile Workshop Coordinators for staffing and
schedule. Those volunteers with prior knowledge/experience about
workshops are encouraged to volunteer.
Transportation Assistants: Assists
with transportation efforts during Symposium. Directs people to buses
and helps load buses and takes tickets. Where applicable, puts water
and lunches on vans and buses for participants.
Room Hosts: Greets
people, checks for conference nametags; appropriate color that day.
After session has begun, encourages people to take available open seats
in the front of the room. Acts as a liaison between the session
moderator and the Audio/Visual Floater. Assists presenters with
handouts. Collects evaluation forms. Coordinates any housekeeping
announcements. Notifies convention center when drinking water and clean
glasses are needed for speakers. Organizes and straightens out room
before and after sessions. If applicable, places speaker name cards on
front table.
Audio/Visual Floater (A/V): Acts
as a liaison between the presenters/session moderators by providing
assistance with audiovisual equipment if a problem arises. Must be
familiar with a variety of audiovisual equipment and software (i.e.
PowerPoint). Should have the ability to troubleshoot any problems and
make any needed repairs to get the equipment up and running as quickly
as possible.
Exhibit Hall: Help
with setup and take down at Expo and any other place that needs
assistance. May require some vigorous labor. (Wednesday October 18th ,
Thursday October 19th , Saturday afternoon/evening October 21st )
Auction: Help set out items to look attractive for silent and live auctions. Stay at booths to keep watch over items.
Party: Assists with setup, decorations, serving food, taking tickets and cleanup. Assists with setup and teardown of entertainment.
Schedule
Remember that some positions only require volunteers
for certain days and hours, if your hours of availability do not match
these positions you will not be assigned to them. Most positions will
last 4 or more hours.

AMERICAN TRAILS
18th NATIONAL TRAILS SYMPOSIUM
VOLUNTEER AGREEMENT
I understand that I will not receive any
compensation for volunteering at the 18th National Trails Symposium
and that volunteers are NOT considered to be employees of American
Trails, Iowa DNR, Illinois DNR, Quad Cities Convention & Visitors
Bureau, nor any sponsor for any purpose. Volunteers are protected under
certain State and Federal laws and under American Trails' liability
insurance except in the case of the volunteer's gross negligence. I
willingly agree to comply with the stated and customary terms and
conditions for participation. Safety is always first! If I observe any
unusual circumstances and it affects my readiness for participation
and/or in the program itself, I will remove myself from participation
and bring such to the attention of the nearest official immediately.
By submitting this form, I do hereby volunteer my
services to assist American Trails in coordinating the 18th National
Trails Symposium.
