14th National Trails Symposium represents the largest trails partnership of all time

By Pam Gluck, Executive Director, American Trails

We are delighted with the success of the recent National Trails Symposium, November 13-17, 1998&emdash; our best ever, and, we think, the largest trails partnership ever in America. Here are some of the highlights:

-- 619 attendees plus many session presenters, members of the public that attended the special dinners and the open house, and the press.

-- Every state but four was represented, including Washington, D. C.

-- National Trails Awards Program recognized 52 of the most important trails leaders in the country! (see page 10-11)

-- Visioning for the 21st Century session attended by leaders of the trails community. (see page 6-7)

-- State Trails Administrators meeting with attendees from 46 States: sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration and the National Association of State Trail Administrators.

-- Universal Trail Assessment Workshop trained new activists.

-- 95 Sponsors contributed $87,629.00 in funds and over $100,000 of in-kind contributions and volunteer and staff time. (see page 3)

-- 52 Exhibitors

-- Over 150 speakers and presenters

And finally, we would like to thank the wonderful people who committed their time to the Symposium Core Committee to make this great trails partnership possible:
